TANJUNG MANIS: The Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration, and Environment Sarawak, who is also the Assemblyman for Kuala Rajang, Datuk Len Talif Salleh, officiated the programme for the release of ash from sacred Quranic texts.

This is the second time such an event has been held, with the first taking place in July 2022.

The ash, containing Quranic text, was released from Tanjung Manis Terminal into the waters of Tanjung Jerijeh (Latitude: 02°09.00' N, Longitude: 110°54.00' E) in the South China Sea, using the Sarawak Coast Guard.

A total of 1,802 kilogrammes of ash from Quranic texts was released, collected from various sacred materials that were disposed of through the reverence process at the Al-Quran Reverence Centre at Al Muttaqin Mosque, Sarikei.

Datuk Len also mentioned that the Sarikei Islamic Welfare Board (LAKISRI) has added more furnaces to meet the needs of mosques, suraus, and individuals wishing to dispose of sacred materials in this manner.

He expressed his hope that the Muslim community in the Central Region, including Saratok, Kabong, Nyabor, Kapit, Sibu, Sri Aman, and Mukah, would submit damaged Quranic texts through the Secretariat or the State Islamic Council for proper disposal according to Islamic law.

In addition, as Chairman of the Sarikei Islamic Welfare Trust Board (LAKISRI), Datuk Len expressed his appreciation to all parties involved, including the Sarawak State Mufti Office, the Sarawak Islamic Affairs Department, the Sarawak Coast Guard, Sarikei Region 5 PDRM, the Sarawak Marine Fisheries Department, the Sarawak Maritime Enforcement Agency, Tanjung Manis Port Authority, LAKIB, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Department of Environment.

Proper disposal of Quranic texts is crucial to maintaining the sanctity and respect for the Quran.

This process ensures that materials no longer in use are not discarded carelessly, preventing desecration or misuse, as well as complying with Islamic law, which mandates the correct disposal of sacred materials.

Also present during the programme were the Mufti of Sarawak, Sahibus Samahah Datu Kipli Yassin, and others. -UKASnews
