KOTA SAMARAHAN: A total of 200 participants participated in the Merdeka Community Fun Run event themed 'We Love, We Care' in celebration of Malaysia's 67th National Day, held at the Dewan Perpaduan Taman Samarindah in Kota Samarahan on Saturday.

The event was a 5-kilometre run with a theme of independence, open to everyone with no age restrictions.

The aim was to encourage a healthy lifestyle among the participants and to raise awareness within the local community about working together to combat various social issues, ensuring their neighbourhood remains a safe place to live.

The Chairman of the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council, Dato' Peter Minos, stated that beyond promoting health and addressing social problems, the event was also intended to enhance the National Day celebrations and foster a sense of patriotism by flying the Malaysian flag.

He also expressed hope that the event would inspire the local community to show their love and pride for the country by flying the Malaysian flag.

"On this occasion, I urge the entire community to fly the Malaysian flag at all premises, including their homes, as a sign of our love for the country.

"A strong sense of patriotism and deep love for the country is essential for defending and maintaining the nation’s harmony and sovereignty," he said.

He said this during his speech at the closing ceremony of the Merdeka Community Fun Run.

Also present were the Deputy Chairman of the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council, Muttalib Julaihi, and Acting Secretary of the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council, Gustian Durani. -UKASnews
