KUCHING: The National Day 2024 celebration at Kampung Sungai Lajim, also known as Kampung No. 5, was filled with enthusiasm and a special charm that clearly showed the harmony and unity within the local community.

This year’s celebration was carefully planned to involve everyone, from children to the elderly, with a variety of fun and creative activities at the village.

One of the most awaited activities was the poetry recital, where youngsters had the chance to recite poems about independence and love for the country, encouraging creativity, confidence in public speaking, and a stronger patriotic spirit among participants and the audience.

Another event was the national-themed pudding decoration contest, where participants or teams had to decorate puddings using the colours of the Malaysian flag or elements that represent the country’s history and culture, combining cooking skills with creativity and fostering a love for the nation through culinary art.

The mini Merdeka sculpture competition also drew a lot of attention, with participants given time to create small sculptures symbolising independence using materials available around the village, promoting teamwork and creativity in producing something that represents the spirit of struggle and independence.

Additionally, a patriotic song karaoke competition was held, adding to the festive atmosphere.

Overall, the National Day 2024 celebration at the village level was not just a chance to show off creativity and patriotic spirit but also helped to strengthen neighbourly bonds and community spirit among the villagers, aimed to inspire pride and love for the country among all the villagers.
