KUCHING: The unity and harmony of the people remains the core of the independence that the nation enjoys today.

Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas stressed that National Day is not just a commemoration of past struggles, but also a tribute to the sacrifices of previous generations.

"We are responsible for continuing this legacy by preparing the country to face future challenges," he said in a Special Address in conjunction with the National Day 2024 celebration on Friday.

Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah also highlighted the rapid changes in the world driven by technology and innovation while calling on the people to continue to strengthen themselves with new knowledge and skills.

He added that a more progressive and innovative Malaysia can be driven through the strength and unity of its people.

In this regard, Malaysians are called on to revive the spirit of independence with a firm commitment to education, creativity, and environmental protection.

The theme of National Day 2024, 'Jiwa Merdeka' in line with the concept of 'Segulai Sejalai', underlining unity and cooperation as the key to the country's future success. -UKASnews
