MIRI: The city of Miri will have another iconic landmark for tourist attraction once the Piasau Bridge is completed.

Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said the Sarawak government has approved the construction of the bridge that will connect Piasau near Piasau Forest Reserve to Miri Marina.

According to him, the Piasau Bridge will be a cable-stayed bridge just like the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge and the famous Golden Gate Bridge.

"This bridge will also become a new iconic landmark in Miri.

"If Kuching has the Darul Hana Bridge, then we have an iconic bridge in Miri. We don't know the name of the bridge yet, but we will build it first," he said.

He said this while speaking at the ‘Ramah Tamah Lembaga Amanah Kebajikan Melayu Miri’ programme held at a hotel here, on Monday.

The programme was graced by the Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.

Among the donations were from Shin Yang Sdn Bhd amounting to RM50,000, Empayar Setia Sdn Bhd (RM30,000), Kencana Defense & Aviation Sdn Bhd (RM15,000), and Samling Strategic Corporation amounting to RM10,000.
