AUSTRALIA: Sarawak has identified two potential locations for the construction of pumped storage hydropower (PHES) facilities.
Sarawak Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, said that the two locations will be developed between the Bakun and Murum hydroelectric dams, while another will be constructed in the Padawan area of Kuching.
"The potential for PHES in Sarawak is high and can be part of Sarawak's continued focus on renewable and green energy," he said.
He made these remarks during a working visit to Australia on Monday.
Meanwhile, Dato Sri Julaihi is also confident that the application of PHES in Sarawak has high potential.
"I believe that the discussions that will be held today and throughout our time in Australia will help us to integrate PHES into Sarawak's energy system.
"Beyond PHES, Sarawak and Australia can learn from each other in areas of cooperation that have the potential to drive the energy transition in both regions," he said. -UKASnews
