KUCHING: The development of the oil and gas industry will be capable of restoring the glory of Miri as a focal point for industries as it once was.
Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, stated that external investors such as Shell Malaysia, PTT Exploration and Production (PTTEP), Mubadala, and Petroleum Sarawak (PETROS) will refocus their investments in Miri.
"I must say here, Shell has made significant progress in Sarawak, establishing their headquarters in Miri, signifying Miri's resurgence as it was before.
"If upstream activities increase, it means that many more downstream activities will take place in Sarawak.
"One of these companies is Shell, and others include PTTEP, Mubadala from the UAE, PAC Contractors, and PETROS itself will play their roles bit by bit," he explained.
He said this when approached by the media after attending the 2024 Aidilfitri Open House event hosted by Shell Malaysia at a leading hotel on Friday.
The event was also graced by the presence of the Governor of Sarawak Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, as well as other distinguished guests. -UKASnews
