KUCHING: Sarawak will review the adjustment formula used by the Federal government in implementing the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA) before proceeding with any salary adjustments for state civil servants.
According to Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, the state government intends to emulate the Federal government’s approach in adjusting civil service salaries with implementation tailored to the state’s financial capability.
“We are currently evaluating our civil service salaries and will calculate based on the announcement made by Prime Minister, Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim. It will be on par, if not slightly better,” he said.
He said this to reporters after attending the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2024 Taekwondo event here, on Friday.
Given that the state’s civil service scheme is structured on a Contribution-Based Position (JBC) rather than a pension system, he said the state government is also considering other benefits and promotion opportunities for its employees.
Also present were Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, Sarawak Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED), Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Sarawak Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, Sarawak State Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, MYSED Deputy Ministers, Dato Gerald Rentap Jabu and Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat, and Sarawak Deputy State Secretary (Operation) who is also Chief Executive Officer of SUKMA XXI Sarawak 2024, Datu Hii Chang Kee.
Earlier during the 19th ‘Majlis Amanat Perdana Perkhidmatan Awam’ (MAPPA XIX) in Putrajaya, Dato’ Seri Anwar announced a 15 per cent salary adjustment for officers in the Implementation Group as well as for officers in the Management and Professional Group.
