BAU: The construction of a border control post between Malaysia and West Kalimantan, Indonesia, near Kampung Stass is planned under Phase 2 of the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) project.

Sarawak Deputy Minister for Transport, Dato Henry Harry Jinep stated that this initiative will be implemented following the completion of the Serikin Immigration, Customs, Quarantine, and Security Complex (ICQS).

"Previously, RM2 million under GKCDA Phase 1 was allocated for the construction of the Stass Border Control Post, but it could not be implemented after the Public Works Department (JKR) concluded that the allocation was only sufficient for road construction,” he said.

He made these remarks while speaking at the 5th Anniversary and Family Day Celebration of Kampung Krawong Stass here, on Wednesday.

The Tasik Biru assemblyman added that funding for the construction of the Stass Border Control Post, a strategic gateway to the Bau District, will be increased in the second phase.

"Our focus now is on the construction of the Serikin ICQS, and once that is completed, we will begin building the Stass Border Control Post,” he stated.

Meanwhile, he explained that efforts to address frequent flooding issues in Kampung Stass are being initiated this year by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) as the implementing agency with an allocation of RM600,000 from GKCDA.

At the same event, he also approved funding to upgrade the Kampung Krawong Stass Community Hall, allocating RM100,000 under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) project for 2025 and another RM10,000 under the Minor Rural Project (MRP) for 2024.

Also present were Bau Acting District Officer, Eddy Nayoi, Penghulu of the Jagoi area, Sumy Lidei, Penghulu of the Bratak area, William Morfor Misek, and Kampung Krawong Stass Community Leader, John Mupok. -UKASnews
