TORONTO: Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi is leading the Sarawak delegation to the International Water Association (IWA) World Water Congress & Exhibition 2024 (WWCE 2024) commencing today at Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, Canada.
IWA WWCE 2024 is a global biennial event which attracts thousands of leading professionals, thought leaders, stakeholders within the conventional water sector and others with an interest in the sector.
This Congress is a platform to create new insights on how pioneering science, technological innovation and leading practices shape water management.
The IWA WWCE 2024 with the main theme "Shaping Our Water Future" encompassing diverse range of themes such as water utility management, wastewater treatment and resource recovery, drinking water and potable use, city scale planning and operations, communities, communication and partnerships and water resource and large-scale water management.
The objectives of Sarawak's delegation at IWA WWCE 2024 includes to gain insigts on the latest trends in best practice, innovative technologies in water sector and management approaches, as well as engaging with industry leaders which aims to foster new collaboration to shape our water future.
As announced on 16 September 2023 during the Malaysia Day celebration, Malaysia has been selected as the host city for the IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition 2028.
Therefore, one of the other objectives is to promote this event in Sarawak to all international delegates.
The delegation is also scheduled to meet with Toronto Water, the municipal division of the City of Toronto which is the Platinum Sponsor for the IWA WWCE 2024.
Dato Sri Julaihi also met with Tom Mollenkopf, President of the IWA and Professor Kala Vairavamoorthy, Executive Director of the IWA.
Among those in the Sarawak delegation are three Deputy Ministers, Datuk Dr. Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Datuk Dr. Penguang Manggil andDatuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak, Jafri Lias, Director for Department of Irrigation and Drainage, Datu Ir. Ts. Ahmad Denney Ahmad Fauzi, Director for Department of Rural Water Supply Sarawak, Ir. Ts. Awg Mohammad Fadhillah Awg Redzuan, officers from the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak, Ministry of Publich Health, Housing and Local Government, Sarawak Sewerage Services Department, Department of Sarawak Rural Water Supply, Kuching Water Board, Sibu Water Board and LAKU Management Sdn Bhd.
