KUCHING: Sarawak will enhance its security measures to ensure the safety of participants of the Malaysian Games (SUKMA) XXI Sarawak 2024.
Sarawak Deputy State Secretary (Operations) and CEO of SUKMA XXI Sarawak 2024, Datu Hii Chang Kee, took to the field on Sunday to provide a safety briefing to the staff and participants involved in the SUKMA 2024 Opening Ceremony.
The ‘Meet & Greet’ session for staff and performers of the SUKMA 2024 Opening Ceremony, held at the Sarawak Stadium, aimed to ensure that all safety preparations are in top condition ahead of the country’s largest sports event, which will take place from 17 to 24 August 2024.
Among the agencies involved in ensuring safety are the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (BOMBA), the Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS), the Malaysian Volunteer Corps (RELA), and the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM).
Meanwhile, Datu Hii mentioned that a security committee has been established, comprising PDRM officers, to oversee the safety of athletes and venues in each division hosting the SUKMA XXI Sarawak 2024 event.
He explained that this step includes ensuring that the movement of athletes and state officials at each sports venue proceeds smoothly and safely.
Also, he emphasised that the committee is expected to continue leading with excellence throughout the preparations and organisation of SUKMA 2024.
Additionally, he noted that the success of this event could serve as a benchmark for Sarawak’s ability to host larger sports festivals in the future. -UKASnews
