KUCHING: The Sarawak government  is placing a strong emphasis on the health and education sectors for the people of the state, especially in upgrading the facilities in these sectors that are aged and in poor condition.

Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said the Sarawak government will allocate funds to upgrade these facilities even if it means having to use the state government's funds to provide an advance.

“What we are doing is, if Sarawak has funds that can assist the federal government, then we will use them.

“The important thing is for the people to have comfortable schools and clinics, which in turn can provide the best services to our people in this state,” he explained.

He made these remarks when speaking to the media during the Premier Sarawak's 2024 Aidilfitri Open House at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here on Thursday.

Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari added that dilapidated facilities, including the residences of officers and workers in both sectors, will be upgraded.

“This accelerates very critical matters, including clinics and housing for officers and nurses, and also schools, including better and more comfortable quarters for teachers,” he further explained.

Last March, Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim agreed to give the Sarawak government the authority to provide advance funding for the upgrading of health and education facilities in the state, which the federal government will reimburse later. -UKASnews
