TAMIN: The appointments of Community Leaders and Village Chiefs (KMKK) are now being made on a contract basis.

Tamin Assemblyman, Christopher Gira Sambang, explained that the village chiefs are chosen by the longhouse residents themselves, not by the local assemblyman, as some tend to believe.

“The idea that the Tuai Rumah (village chief) is appointed by the assemblyman is not true,” he said.

He said this during the ceremony where 11 village chiefs and one community chief from the Ulu Mukah and Ulu Selangau areas received their appointment certificates.

Christopher Gira also reminded the village chiefs to learn how to use online platforms, as most communication is now done digitally.

The event was also attended by Selangau District Officer, Yalin Asan and a representative of the Sibu Division Resident, Macgyver Boi. -UKASnews
