KUCHING: The Sarawak Police Force is ready to face the upcoming Malaysia Games (SUKMA) Sarawak 2024 on August 17 to 24.

Sarawak Police Commissioner, Dato Mancha Ata said, although the number of police members has yet to be determined, it is expected that more than 7,000 police personnel will be mobilised throughout SUKMA 2024.

"In terms of human resources, our side is ready with sufficient equipment to face the upcoming SUKMA," he said.

He said this when met by reporters after the Sarawak Police Contingent ‘Pingat Jasa Pahlawan Negara (PJPN)’ Award Ceremony at the General Operations Force (PGA) Batu Kawa Brigade Headquarters on Tuesday.

Dato Mancha added that Sarawak police preparations are now going smoothly, especially involving security control tasks, particularly for athletes who will compete in SUKMA later.

Meanwhile, the contributions and sacrifices of 186 Sarawak Police retirees were recognised as they were awarded the PJPN today.

The handover of medals to the retirees and several heirs was officiated by Dato Mancha.

The awarding of PJPN Series 3, 2024 is a special appreciation to retired police officers for their service and sacrifice to the country during the era of emergency and communist insurgency between 1948 to 1990.
