MIRI: The Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a crucial role in creating job opportunities, increasing income, and contributing to the economic growth of both the state and the country.
Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said MSMEs represent 1.17 million (97.4 per cent) of the total 1.20 million business community in Malaysia, with 83,708 MSMEs being from Sarawak.
“Therefore, the Sarawak government always pays attention to the local MSMEs which are the backbone of economic development through various initiatives and programmes such as today’s Sarawak Entrepreneurs Showcase Programme,” he said.
He said this during the opening ceremony of the Sarawak Entrepreneurs Showcase (SUS) @ Miri 2024 here, on Saturday.
Additionally, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah mentioned that SUS is a platform to highlight various products from the 51 top entrepreneurs representing the Divisional Entrepreneur Development Council (MPUB) and agencies in Sarawak.
He added that the programme also highlights local products recognised with halal certification from the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department.
“I believe this halal recognition can elevate local products to the global market, as the use of halal products is guaranteed to be safe and clean,” he said.
Moreover, he said that SUS also offers various interesting activities such as business pitching and business matching through the participation of anchor companies like MyGalore, Borneo Outlet, MYDIN, AEON, and Alfamy, with a potential sales target of RM3 million. -UKASnews
