KUCHING: Employers, particularly in Sarawak, are being urged to advocate for inclusive policies and practices that promote gender equality.

Sarawak Minister for Women, Early Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, emphasised that policymakers must draft and enforce laws that protect women's rights in the workplace.

She pointed out that society must also challenge outdated gender norms and support women in pursuing balanced careers and lives.

Dato Sri Fatimah made these remarks during the closing ceremony of the “Empowering Women: Employers Championing Change” session held in conjunction with the Sarawak Women’s Day 2024 celebration on Friday.

She further noted that the cumulative effect of these challenges is leading to significant mental strain and increased stress among working women.

She expressed her appreciation for Sarawak Energy Berhad and Pertama Ferroalloys Sdn Bhd for their efforts to bring about change in empowering women within their respective organisations.

Dato Sri Fatimah also hoped that every woman would be able to thrive, where their talents are recognised, and their contributions are fairly valued.

Also in attendance were Sarawak Deputy Minister of Women, Early Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Rosey Yunus, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Datu Felicia Tan Ya Hua, and other distinguished guests.-UKASnews
