Solar Project In Baram: Sarawak Agrees In Principle To Collaborate With UEM Group

KUCHING: The Sarawak government has agreed in principle to collaborate with UEM Group to develop a large scale 500-megawatt solar project in the Baram area.

This was conveyed by the Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg during a courtesy visit from UEM Group, Planet QEOS, and Khazanah Nasional Berhad at Wisma Bapa Malaysia, Petra Jaya, on Wednesday.

UEM Group Chairman, Datuk Amran Hafiz Affifudin said a feasibility study will be conducted to assess the suitability of the project.

“This project involves the development of a large scale 500-megawatt solar power plant in the Baram district. We believe this project will be a significant game changer and will be beneficial for all stakeholders in Sarawak and Malaysia as a whole.

“The Premier of Sarawak is very supportive in principle, but any project is subject to the feasibility study, which we will conduct promptly. He suggested that we return quickly with the study's results to expedite the matter,” he said.

He made these remarks when met by reporters after the courtesy visit.
