KUCHING: Two energy companies from China have expressed their intention to invest USD 10 billion in the development of green energy resources in Sarawak.
Director of Shanghai Electric Malaysia, Zhang Xiaohui, said that his company and China Three Gorges International Limited have been established in Sarawak for the past 10 years.
According to him, their experience and success in collaborating with companies in Sarawak have given them the confidence to invest even more.
"At this time, we believe that under the leadership of Premier Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, the state will become a green energy hub, so we want to extend our support.
"So we, from China Three Gorges and Shanghai Electric, want to participate in the development of this green energy and we plan to invest more than USD 10 billion in Sarawak," he said.
He stated this to reporters after paying a courtesy visit to the Premier of Sarawak at his office, Wisma Bapa Malaysia, here on Wednesday.
Earlier, Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari also received a courtesy visit from Mubadala Energy, led by its President, Nr Khalfan Al Mansoori, and Head of External Relations & Communications Mubadala Energy, Varian Ignatius.
Also present were the Sarawak Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, President of Shanghai Electric Power T&D (M) Sdn. Bhd, Shao Jian Ming, Vice President of Shanghai Electric Power T&D (M) Sdn. Bhd, Yang Xing Hai, and Chairman of Shanghai Electric Malaysia, Chen Ping.–UKASnews
