KUCHING: Hotels in Sarawak are prepared to accommodate around 10,000 guests who will attend the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) XXI Sarawak 2024 next month.

Sarawak Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, mentioned that this expectation is based on Sarawak's ability to host 26,000 visitors during the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) last month.

"Considering that our hotels were able to handle such a large influx during the RWMF over three days, welcoming 26,000 visitors, I believe we are well-prepared for SUKMA," he said.

He made this statement to the media in a 'Juh Randau' programme of the Sarawak Public Communication Unit at Baitulmakmur Building, Petra Jaya, on Tuesday.

Datuk Sebastian further explained that organising SUKMA presents significant economic opportunities not only in Kuching but across Sarawak.

"This time, we will see events organised outside Kuching as well, such as in Miri, which will host six categories.

"In doing so, we can attract visitors from neighbouring Brunei, thereby increasing the number of participants," he said.-UKASnews
