BINTULU: To enable more people to enjoy digital access to education, the Sarawak Government remains committed in its efforts to provide complete telecommunication facilities including the installation of broadband in rural areas.

Sarawak Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunications Datuk Liwan Lagang said that Belaga District is the second rural district that has been connected with optical fiber from the Menjawah area to Belaga which allows people to subscribe to Internet services for their children's education.

He added that in the near future, his ministry will launch a Digital Economy Centre in Belaga including districts that will be provided with 5G telecommunication facilities.

"Therefore, use this facility well for children's education by providing digital access for them to gain knowledge online where everything is at their fingertips.

"In addition, these facilities are very important, so it is everyone's responsibility to take care of these facilities so that they are not damaged," he explained.

He said this while speaking at the Excellence and Appreciation Ceremony for Form 6 of SMK Belaga here on Friday.

In addition, the Belaga assemblyman added that parents should play an important role in the development of children in education.

He said, there are two basic things as a parent's role that needs to be done to the children.

"First, give moral and material support according to the demands and needs of today. Don't be spoiled.

"Secondly, guide and monitor our children in their studies, during activities, their friends and what they do at home," he explained.

The ceremony, which was held for the first time outside the school, was for the 41 students who had successfully completed Form 6 to appreciate their efforts and achievements.

He also agreed to give some financial assistance to SMK Belaga which will be channeled through the Parents and Teachers Association (PIBG) amounting to RM30,000. - UKASnews
