KUCHING: The women's 10-meter diving and women's futsal events at the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2024 face cancellation if they fail to meet the necessary criteria.

Sarawak's Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, explained that each sports event in SUKMA must be participated by at least six states.

"If there are fewer than six states for any event, that sport will be cancelled. However, we are still under discussion for finalisation.

"There are two or three sports events, one of which I was informed is the women's 10-meter diving and women's futsal that may have to be cancelled because only four states have sent their participation.

"I know the women's 10-meter diving event is one of the events that could contribute gold medals to Sarawak.

"However, since only four states have sent their names, it may have to be cancelled," he said.

He said this during the Juh Berambeh Sungkei @ Kuching Programme at Padang Merdeka here, on Saturday.

Dato Sri Abdul Karim added that the organising committee of SUKMA 2024 is also to request other states to send contingents for sports events.

"Do not focus too much on whether you can win or not, but rather look more towards the spirit of sportsmanship," he said.
