KUCHING: The Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) represents the face of the Sarawak Government's social inclusiveness policy.

Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, stated that the Sarawak Government strives to create a state that enjoys economic prosperity, environmental sustainability, and social inclusiveness.

According to him, UNIFOR exists only in Sarawak, and this is a manifestation of the Sarawak Government and Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, to foster racial and religious harmony in the state.

"UNIFOR has received allocations amounting to RM380 million since 2017 up until now, not including additional funding from the Premier of Sarawak," he explained.

He said this while speaking at the UNIFOR Director Handover Ceremony at a hotel here on Thursday.

Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah added that UNIFOR will continue to ensure that the allocated funds are distributed fairly to the places of worship that need them.

"For instance, the new St Thomas Church is a manifestation of UNIFOR's commitment to assisting places of worship in Sarawak," he stated.

At the same event, former UNIFOR Director Datu Jack Aman Luat officially handed over his duties to Dato Georgina Apphia Ngau, the former Director of the Malaysian Registration of Societies Department (JPPM) Sarawak.

Also present were Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government, Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil, Sarawak Deputy State Secretary (Operations), Datu Hii Chang Kee, Sarawak Police Commissioner, Dato Mancha Ata, Anglican Bishop of Kuching (Sarawak and Brunei) Rt Rev. Datuk Danald Jute, and other distinguished guests. -UKASnews
