KUCHING: The Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) is prepared to revamp its current work culture in response to the Sarawak Government's call to effectively communicate various initiatives to Sarawakians.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department of Sarawak (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS), Datuk Abdullah Saidol, said that this transformation is being undertaken upon the advice of Premier Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg.

"Following the advice and guidance of Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari, UKAS will conduct an 'in-house' seminar to slightly overhaul the culture, methods, and new areas of work.

"This change is driven by the numerous government initiatives, especially those announced by the Sarawak Premier, requiring UKAS staff to adopt a more aggressive approach," he said.

He said this when met by reporters at the Ngiling Tikai Ceremony of UKAS in Kuching on Sunday.

Furthermore, he also received advice from the Premier of Sarawak to establish a form of collaboration with Angkatan Zaman Mansang Sarawak (AZAM), especially in implementing new jointly organised programmes.

He added that this collaboration aims to assist the Premier of Sarawak in effectively communicating government initiatives.

"AZAM and UKAS will collaborate more closely, reviewing our approaches to reshape work methods towards a broader perspective, including aggressive approaches, particularly engagement with the community and other ministries," he said.

He further explained that several meetings with AZAM management have been held to review operations, planning, and programmes to incorporate UKAS initiatives and programmes.

Additionally, he stated that the programmes conducted will also involve media agencies in Sarawak to ensure that the understanding gap regarding government initiatives is reduced among the state's population.

Also present were UKAS Director, Samuel Simon, President of the Kuching Division Journalists Association (KDJA), Ronnie Teo, Chief Media Officer of TVS Mohamad Sardon Zainal, and other invited guests. -UKASnews
