KUCHING: Current media practitioners and journalists must detail their news writing to provide the public with complete and accurate information.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS), Datuk Abdullah Saidol, said this is crucial as there are still deficiencies in the writing produced by journalists, especially from the aspect of analysis.

"Sometimes, journalists need to analyse and conduct deeper research when covering news, rather than relying entirely on the speeches of honorary guests," he said.

He said this during the Ngiling Tikai Ceremony of the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) here on Sunday.

Datuk Abdullah added that in-depth writing can counter negative voices attempting to spread propaganda aimed at undermining Sarawak.

The ceremony, attended by UKAS staff, also featured a symbolic 'ngiling tikai' performed by Datuk Abdullah.

Additionally, the event included a lucky draw and musical and dance performances to further enliven the occasion.

Also present were UKAS Director, Samuel Simon, President of the Kuching Division Journalists Association (KDJA), Ronnie Teo, Chief Media Officer of TVS Mohamad Sardon Zainal, and other invited guests. -UKASnews
