KUCHING: Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas hopes for the newly appointed Director of the Unit For Other Religions (UNIFOR), Datuk Georgina Apphia Ngau to oversee the implementation of all funded projects for various houses of worship under the unit.

Datuk Georgina relayed this after a courtesy call on Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah, who is the Minister in Charge of UNIFOR, here, on Friday.

She emphasised the importance of ensuring that all upgrading and construction projects are completed properly and on schedule.

Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah has also tasked her with assessing the actual costs of project requests to prevent overestimation.

“Another key responsibility of mine will be to explore ways to preserve and strengthen the state's existing inter-religious and racial unity and harmony,” she said.

Datuk Georgina, who previously served as the Registrar of Societies (RoS) Sarawak Director, assumed her new role this month.

Her career includes holding senior positions in various federal departments and the National Anti-Drug Agency.

In a related development, Chief Executive Officer of the UNIFOR Charitable Trust, John Kennedy Janang also paid a courtesy call on Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah on the same day. -UKASnews
