KUCHING: Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Integrity and Ombudsman), Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya firmly believes that individuals who join the Certified Integrity Officer (CeIO) programme should not be focused on finding faults in others within the workplace.

Instead, he said the role of a CeIO is to carry out preventive measures.

“The task of a CeIO is to carry out preventive work. We prevent issues before they occur, and this is what must be understood by CeIOs and everyone in their respective offices.

“Do not overreact when there are integrity issues in our office; rectify them. If there is a mistake, correct it. That's why I mentioned earlier that our job is not to find the faults in others.

“Prevent those mistakes before they happen or spread within the department. This is extremely important,” he said during the Closing Ceremony of the Integrity Sustainability Seminar 2024 at a leading hotel here, on Tuesday.

Datuk Dr Juanda also stressed that the CeIO plays a part in ensuring the success of the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

“Becoming a CeIO is not a glamorous position. However, you have been chosen and selected to carry out a noble task to ensure the success of PCDS 2030, striving towards a high-integrity and advanced Sarawak.

“If we all share the aspirations of the Premier of Sarawak (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg) and become contributors to the success of PCDS 2030, when Sarawak advances with high integrity, we will feel proud because we are part of those who elevate the status of our state,” he added.

Meanwhile, he also mentioned about the importance of addressing disciplinary issues promptly within their respective departments, urging everyone to take decisive action when necessary.

“Let us all be the ones who ensure that any disciplinary issue is promptly addressed and do not sweep it under the rug,” he said.

Also present were Director of Integrity and Ombudsman Unit, Sarawak Premier's Department Wan Mohamad Wan Drahman, Deputy Director of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, Sarawak Wan Ahmad Nidzam Wan Omar, and other distinguished guests. -UKASnews
