Punang Nature Walk Another Tourist Attraction In Lawas

LAWAS: The Punang Nature Walk project signifies the commitment of the Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA) in encouraging as well as accelerating economic advancement and socioeconomic development of the people of Lawas. 

Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the project, situated at Punang Beach, is set to become another tourist attraction in the area. 

“Construction of the project, costing RM1.2 million, started in August 2020 and completed in June 27, 2023.  

“The project involved the construction of new public toilets, changing and shower rooms, RC benches, a waste disposal centre, barbecue sites, camping grounds, tarred roads, parking lots, and walkways,” he said when speaking to officiate the Punang Nature Walk here, on Sunday. 

The NRDA Chairman added that other projects that could add to the tourism value of Kampung Punang include the Tahai Fish Smokehouse and the Fish and Shrimp Breeding site which could potentially nurture budding agro and aquaculture entrepreneurs. 

Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer of the Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA), Datu Ismawi Ismuni said the Sarawak government has allocated RM36 million for development projects in Kampung Punang involving four completed projects and two ongoing projects. 

Also present were NRDA Director, Datu Ubaidillah Abdul Latip, and Limbang Division Resident, Unus Tambi. -UKASnews
