KUCHING: The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) launched the MPP Level Kuching City Cleanliness Month at Batu Kawah Riverbank Park on Monday.
Its Chairman, Councillor Tan Kai said the MPP Cleanliness Month is a significant step towards making Kuching a greener city, signalling for the people to be more conscious of health and cleanliness.
"MPP aligns these efforts with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing on Goal 3 of Good Health and Wellbeing, Goal 12 of Responsible Consumption and Production, Goal 14 of Life Below Water, Goal 15 of Life on Land, and Goal 17 of Partnerships for the Goals.
"Through these activities, I hope that we can teach our future generations the importance of keeping our land clean to live in, and for our community to be alert to the surroundings," he said during his speech while representing Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian at the launch ceremony.
According to him, eight activities are planned, including the Joint Solid Waste Segregation Programme (MPP-Trienekens), the Recycled Materials Sculpture Competition for Primary and Secondary Schools, the No Plastic Bag Days and No to Styrofoam Food Containers programme, the Buy Back Campaign for Recycled Items, Electrical/Electronic Waste, Collection of Used Cooking Oil and Donation of Used Clothing, and the Environmental Sustainability Programme at Kampung Beradek.
It also involves the Health, Environment, and Food Premises Cleanliness Education Programme, the Logo Design Competition for the MPP Level Kuching City Cleanliness Month, as well as Mass Vaccination, Dog Licensing, and Microchipping.
Tan Kai added that this aspiration is also in line with MPP's focus and vision to make all areas under its administration clean, beautiful, as well as comfortable to live and work in besides attract tourism and investment.
"Therefore, it is my hope that we all join hands to ensure the level of cleanliness and environmental sustainability becomes our collective responsibility," he said. -UKASnews
