SIBU: The opening ceremony of the Community Safety Service and the Madani Community Soul Programme held at Traffic Rejang Park Sibu was officiated by Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang on Sunday.

The programme was jointly organised by the National Security Council (MKN) Sarawak Sibu Branch, Sibu Information Department, Taman Rejang JKKK, and the MADANI Community of Taman Rejang.

The National Security Council (MKN) Sarawak also launched the Community Safety Action Plan Guidelines for Taman Rejang, making it the first in Sarawak to have such guidelines to ensure community safety.

During the launch, the Pelawan Assemblyman expressed gratitude to MNSC Sarawak for initiating and publishing the guidelines.

"I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to MNSC Sarawak for launching and publishing guidelines to enable the community, especially Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) and Neighborhood Watch Areas (KRT), to know the appropriate actions to take in the event of a disaster.

"Congratulations to JKKK Taman Rejang for being selected as the first area to launch these guidelines.

"We as members of the community need to ensure the safety of our residential areas and respective alleys," he said.

He urged the public to report to the authorities regarding any suspicious activities or factors that may threaten neighbourhood safety.

Regarding this programme, Tiang, who is also the Pelawan assemblyman, hopes it can foster community spirit in environmental conservation and encourage cooperation among the people in all aspects.

"Looking back, in the past, we knew every family in our neighborhood. Mutual cooperation and visiting each other were rare occurrences nowadays due to busy schedules."

"Therefore, today's communal work will cultivate community spirit and at the same time, we can clean up our environment," he said.

Also present were Deputy Director of NADMA Sarawak Wazi Seman, Sibu Information Department Officer Zaini Morshidi, Chairman of JKKK Taman Rejang Captain Kong Leh En, Chief of Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division, Sibu District Police Headquarters DSP Veronica Judia Jero, and others. -UKASnews
