BINTULU: The Bintulu Department of Social Welfare has identified 200 families around Bintulu and Tatau, and 150 families in Samalaju who are in need.

The effort was a collaborative initiative between Petronas Foundation with the Bintulu District Office.

Deputy Minister of Digital and Hulu Rajang Member of Parliament, Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong said that initiatives like this are proof of their commitment to helping people, especially during festive seasons.

“I also hope that the food baskets provided today can somewhat alleviate the burden of those in need and bring joy to the Gawai celebration.

"I am certain that it is also synchronised with our main database system, PADU. Such coordination will enable the government to provide assistance to those who truly need it,” he said.

He was speaking at the Ngiling Bidai 2024 Gawai Celebration @ PETRONAS Uplifting Lives Gawai 2024 under Petronas Foundation held at Fairfield by Marriott, Bintulu on Friday.

He also encourages Petronas Foundation's community programmes focusing on education and economic development to be expanded further into rural areas, especially schools and clinics in need, so that those in the interior are not left out.

Furthermore, he calls on corporate companies to ensure their community programmes or activities also reach out to rural communities.

Also present were Tanjong Batu Assemblyman, Johnny Pang Leong Ming, Jepak Assemblyman, Iskandar Turkee, Petronas Sarawak Senior Manager, Norazibah Md Rabu and other distinguished guests. -UKASnews
