KUCHING: The initiative of the Sarawak Syariah Judiciary Department to strengthen the jurisdiction of the Syariah Court is supported by the Sarawak Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
Chief Syariah Judge of the Sarawak Syariah Judiciary Department, Datu Awang Suhaili Ledi, said it can be seen when Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi also shared suggestions towards empowering the Syariah courts from a legal perspective.
"One of our main objectives is to inform Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi about the organisational duties, the judiciary tasks of Sarawak which are directly related to Tun. Additionally, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi also shared his experiences and provided suggestions towards empowering the Syariah courts from a legal perspective including improvements to the law, judiciary institutions, protocols, positions, and legislative planning, the Syariah court will be strengthened soon," he said.
According to him, the appointment of Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi as the Governor of Sarawak will manifest the continuity of the agenda to empower Syariah law.
He said this when approached by reporters after paying a courtesy visit to Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi and his wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi at the Astana Negeri on Thursday.
Datu Suhaili added that the objective of the visit includes informing the latest developments regarding the Shariah Court where the appointment of judges falls under the jurisdiction of Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi.
Furthermore, the meeting was also to invite Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi and Toh Puan Fauziah as guests of honour for an upcoming lecture programme.-UKASnews
