KUCHING: All Sarawak Government Linked Companies (GLCs) need to explore new methods to generate their own income.

Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said that this is to change the mindset of GLCs that only depend on the injection of government funds and do not care about profit or loss.

According to him, the government funds can be used instead for other purposes such as the development of schools, clinics, and basic infrastructure in Sarawak.

"So, the government no longer needs to provide funds. The government will use the savings for infrastructure development such as schools, clinics and basic infrastructure.

"When all (the infrastructure and facilities) are in place, the economy is stable, the people will reap the benefits.

"We need to change the mindset where government assistance is expected if there is a loss suffered by any GLC," he said.

He said this when met by reporters after officiating the National Auditors Conference 2024 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Tuesday.

Earlier in his speech, the Sarawak Premier emphasised the state's need to strengthen integrity and the Sarawak Ombudsman Ordinance so that all civil servants comply with the established governance.

Also present were Speaker of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN), Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, Auditor-General, Datuk Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Integrity and Ombudsman), Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya, Sarawak Deputy State Secretary (Operation), Datu Hii Chang Kee, as well as State and Federal government officials. - UKASnews
