Digital Literacy And Bilingual Proficiency At The Forefront Of Sarawak’s Educational Reforms

KUCHING: Sarawak is placing a strong emphasis on digital literacy and bilingual proficiency in its educational reforms.

Sarawak Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn mentioned the Dual Language Programme (DLP) Sarawak, which began in 2020.

The programme has been gradually introduced and is expected to extend up to Year 5 in national primary schools by 2024.

"This programme aims to enhance bilingual proficiency among students, preparing them for a globalised world where bilingual skills are an invaluable asset.

"Mastery of English alongside Bahasa Melayu will open numerous doors for our students, both in further education and in their future careers," he added.

He said this when giving a speech during the ‘Sarawak Education Awards Ceremony’ 2024, organised at CIDB Convention Centre on Saturday.

Present at the event were Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg with his wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang.

At the same time Dato Sri Roland Sagah explained that Raspberry Pi computers were also equipped to all primary schools since 2021.

"These small but powerful devices provide early exposure to Information and Communication Technology (ICT),nurturing skills in coding and programming among our young learners.

"Our long-term aim is to inspire more students to pursue STEM and innovation at upper secondary and tertiary levels," he said.-UKASnews
