SIBU: Young Sarawakians from various ethnic groups in the state are invited to become 'agents' of unity, always demonstrating magnanimity, as they are the heirs of leadership and future pillars of the Land of the Hornbills.

The Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Corporate Affairs, Information, and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol stated that these individuals need to build a character that sincerely embraces universal humanitarian values that cherish peace.

"Therefore, I urge the youth not to easily fall into emotionally charged sentiments and to steer clear of racial elements.

"The unity and cordiality among the various ethnic groups in Sarawak represent the most 'beautiful' aspect of the Sarawakian people, and the closeness and tolerance among the different ethnicities in the Land of the Hornbills are cultural treasures that should be proudly preserved and defended," he said.

He made these remarks during the 'Sungkei Majlis Bersama UKAS 2024' Iftar gathering at a hotel here, on Wednesday.

The Semop assemblyman added that the state government, under the leadership of Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, is also committed to the development of human capital among the younger generation.

This is crucial, he stressed, so that the implementation of Sarawak's new economic policy will be inherited and managed by Sarawakians themselves.

"For this reason, students from higher education institutions (HEIs), especially in Sarawak, are encouraged to undergo their industrial training at Sarawak government departments.

"Besides gaining work experience, I believe they will also have the opportunity to understand how government administration functions," he further explained.

At the event, Datuk Abdullah also presented contributions to 35 students from Tahfiz Darul Ullum and Tahfiz Hidayatul Quran An-Nur.

Also present at the event were the Deputy State Secretary (Operation), Datu Hii Chang Kee, Sibu Division Resident Datu Wong Hee Sieng, Director of the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) Samuel Simon, Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Sarawak Prof Datuk Khairuddin Abdul Hamid, Temenggong Dato Vincent Lau Lee Ming, Temenggong Stanley Geramong Bandar, and other invited guests.-UKASnews
