Sri Aman Boxing Centre Awaits MYSED Decision

SRI AMAN: The proposal to establish a boxing centre in Sri Aman is currently awaiting approval from the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak (MYSED).

Sarawak Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Francis Harden Hollis disclosed that a four-acre site at the Sri Aman Sports Complex has been identified for the centre.

Datuk Francis who is also the Simanggang Assemblyman explained that they are now waiting for the decision and allocation of funds for the project.

"We have identified the construction site and will be allowed to assist in building the training centre. Previously, we also requested the construction of two open football fields, hostels for men and women, a dining hall, and a tennis court.

"With this development, we hope sports associations will remain active, and I also hope sports enthusiasts will visit Sri Aman," he added.

He said this when speaking to reporters after officiating the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) and Para SUKMA XXI Sarawak 2024 Baton Relay for the Sri Aman Division at the Sri Aman Waterfront on Saturday.

In a related development, he revealed that the Simanggang Indoor Stadium at the Sri Aman Sports Complex would be the venue for boxing events in the 21st SUKMA.

He noted that several facilities at the stadium would be upgraded, including the toilets and interior landscaping, to ensure the comfort of the boxers and officials.

It is estimated that around 500 people, including athletes, officials, and committee members, will be in Sri Aman for the boxing event from August 16 to 23.

"In Sri Aman, the boxing competition has been very well managed, including logistics facilities.

"We have provided accommodation, including homestays. So far, accommodation is sufficient. Transportation will be managed by the committee members," he said.

Also present at the baton relay were Sri Aman Member of Parliament, Dato' Sri Doris Sophia Brodie, Sarawak Deputy State Secretary (Operation) and CEO of the SUKMA XXI Sarawak 2024 Secretariat, Datu Hii Chang Kee, Lingga Assemblywoman, Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor, Permanent Secretary to the Sarawak Ministry of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datu Felicia Tan Ya Hua, MYSED Deputy Permanent Secretary, Dolhadi Mazuki, and other guests.-UKASnews
