 
KUCHING: The Sarawak Government has agreed in principle to approve a 15-acre site for the development of the Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus research centre, in line with efforts to make Sarawak a hub for renewable energy and high-tech research.
Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said the development of this centre is a strategic measure to produce highly skilled human capital capable of processing Sarawak's resources in the next 25 years.
“Of course, the Sarawak Government will invest in the construction of this research centre and equip it with the latest equipment.
“The aim is to analyse all available resources and convert them into high-quality products using the latest technology,” he said.
He said this while speaking at the Swinburne Sarawak 25th Anniversary Gala Dinner at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here, Tuesday.
As the university’s Pro-Chancellor, he stressed that this research centre will be the core for green energy research and high-tech sectors including satellites, drones and aerospace.
Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari expressed confidence that with local expertise and resources, Sarawak could produce a highly knowledgeable young generation in the fields of energy and advanced technology.
