KUCHING: The involvement of grassroots communities and university students is crucial in assisting the state government in disseminating accurate information on policies and development initiatives implemented in Sarawak.

Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS), Datuk Abdullah Saidol said this effort ensures that the government's message reaches the public accurately and is understood at all levels.

According to him, village and community leaders, educators and students are encouraged to be the eyes and ears of the government in helping to clarify current issues and channel authentic information to their respective communities.

"This programme is part of the Sarawak Public Communication Unit’s (UKAS) initiative to share information and exchange views in order for the government to draft and structure policies according to the needs of the community," he said when speaking at the Closing Ceremony of the Information and Clarification of Current Issues Programme here on Tuesday.

Datuk Abdullah explained that although not all matters can be conveyed comprehensively to the public, programmes such as this are a key platform to ensure that government policies are understood more clearly, in addition to avoiding confusion due to inaccurate information spread on social media.

The programme was also attended by people from all walks of life, including students from higher learning institutions and grassroots leaders who are committed to helping strengthen two-way communication between the government and the people.

Also present were Kuching District Officer, Zaidi Sharkawi, UKAS Deputy Director, Mohamed Faizal Shah Ali, and Director of the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) Batu Lintang Campus, Dr. Abang Ismail Abang Juhi. -UKASnews
