KUCHING: Sarawak will continue to collaborate with the Federal Government in the oil and gas sector — a major contributor to Malaysia’s revenue, amounting to RM285.4 billion between 2018 and 2024.
Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, said such cooperation will yield mutual benefits for both parties.
“We are Malaysia’s main petroleum producer.
“Therefore, it is best that we work together for the shared benefit of both the Federal and State Governments,” he said when met by reporters after officiating the Sarawak Regatta 2025 at the Kuching Waterfront on Friday.
Earlier, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform), Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, revealed that the nation’s petroleum revenue from 2018 to 2024 totalled RM775.2 billion.
It is understood that this figure comprises RM284.8 billion from Peninsular Malaysia, RM205.0 billion from Sabah, and RM285.4 billion from Sarawak.
Sarawak also received the largest share of Petronas’ upstream investment over the past seven years — RM113.2 billion out of the RM256 billion spent nationwide. -UKASnews
