KUCHING: Amid the rising wave of artificial intelligence (AI) and green technology across the region, Sarawak stands out as a bold example of a state shaping a new innovation driven and sustainable economy, powered by strong government support and a clear, forward looking vision.

In recent years, the Sarawak Government has spearheaded numerous initiatives and high level conferences at state, national and international levels to strengthen collaboration with global industry players and accelerate the adoption of new technologies across government agencies and the private sector.

These efforts open avenues for knowledge, expertise sharing as well as demonstrate how proactive policies can propel the entire economic ecosystem to advance in unison.

Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, in his address at the International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak 2025 (IDECS25), emphasised that Sarawak is not merely talking about the future but actively realising it.

These achievements have propelled Sarawak onto the global stage, drawing interest from investors and international technology leaders eager to study the state’s development model.

Renowned AI expert and Chief Executive Officer of ADDO Dr Ayesha Khanna highlighted that Sarawak’s strength lies in the government’s commitment and decisive actions.

“When a government truly says, ‘we believe in this, we see this as good for our economy and our people,’ it gives a powerful push and clear advantage, especially when others have yet to focus fully on it.

“And in fact, it’s not just words as it is the infrastructure, political will, and culture that are the most important ingredients to revolutionise a nation’s economy,” she said.

Echoing the same sentiment, Executive Director of 51World Greta Pu expressed admiration for Sarawak’s achievement in digitalising 56 per cent of SCS, a major step towards building a smart administrative system by 2030.

“All government services will eventually be digitalised, and that’s very exciting for us.

“I believe Sarawak’s future will only become more prosperous,” she said.

Sarawak’s free education initiative, championed by the Premier, has also gained international recognition after he clarified that the policy is not politically driven but stems from a genuine commitment to provide equal opportunities for all Sarawakians regardless of race or background.

The policy earned praise from ZTE Project Director Wayne Yap Choon Hui, who commended Sarawak for pioneering a sustainable education model in Malaysia.

“Sarawak is essentially practising what countries like Australia are doing, offering free education to its people. This is deeply meaningful, not only for Sarawakians but for Malaysians as a whole,” he remarked.

All these efforts signify that Sarawak’s AI and green technology revolution is more than just an economic transformation, it is a manifestation of synergy between the government, private sector and the people under the spirit of ‘no one left behind,’ proving that with vision and action, the future of Sarawak is being rewritten. -UKASnews
