KUCHING: The Sarawak men’s futsal squad is fully prepared and in high spirits as they gear up to take on the challenge at the 2025 MAKSAK Games, which will begin on Thursday at the National Sports Complex (KSN) and Sportizza Batu Tiga, Shah Alam.
Drawn into Group D alongside Kelantan, Negeri Sembilan, ATM and Perlis, the Sarawak team has undergone more than a month of intensive preparation, including rigorous training sessions and several friendly matches to strengthen team chemistry and tactical coordination.
Team Manager Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan said the 12-member squad, led by Head Coach Sufian Ibrahim and supported by six management staff, is ready to deliver strong performances both mentally and physically.
“This team is made up of experienced players with solid discipline and strong teamwork, which form the main pillars of our strength,” he said when contacted on Wednesday night.
According to him, the team departed for Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday night and will open their campaign against Perlis on Thursday before facing Kelantan later the same day.
Their following matches will see Sarawak competing against Negeri Sembilan and ATM, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the quarterfinals on October 25, followed by the semifinals and final on October 26.
Awang Putrayusrie added that training focused on fitness, mental strength and tactical efficiency in both defensive and attacking play to handle the demanding schedule of four matches within three days.
With thorough preparation and a strong fighting spirit, the Sarawak futsal squad aims to make Shah Alam the stage for a new victory for the Land of the Hornbills in the 2025 MAKSAK Games. -UKASnews
