X-FAB Sarawak Receives Top IDECS25 Award

KUCHING: Malaysia’s first semiconductor factory, X-FAB Sarawak Sdn. Bhd. was crowned the winner of the Sarawak Premier Digital Economy Award, in conjunction with the Sarawak International Digital Economy Conference 2025 (IDECS25).

The top award which recognises the most outstanding achievement was presented by Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg at the IDECS25 Dinner held at a leading hotel here on Wednesday.

X-FAB was recognised for their outstanding contribution in driving innovation and digital transformation in Sarawak, and will have the opportunity to represent the region at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona in March 2026, with the expenses fully borne by the Sarawak Government.

In addition, X-FAB Sarawak also received the Digital Technology Transformation Award which saw them securing a cash prize of RM10,000, as well as a trophy and certificate, in recognition of their achievements in bringing about major advancements in the digital technology sector.

Both awards highlight the company’s key role in transforming Sarawak’s digital landscape and strengthening the technology ecosystem globally.

The same ceremony also saw the recognition of five other winners from different categories, each of whom demonstrated excellence in their fields.

Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) was selected as the recipient of the Research & Development and Commercialisation Award for their success in the field of research and commercialisation of technology that has directly benefitted the community and the industry sector.

The Land and Survey Department Sarawak received the Digital Government Award for their role in modernising government services through digital technology, increasing the efficiency and ease of access of the people to public services.

Ensera Creatives Sdn. Bhd. won the Digital Creative Content Award for their success in producing digital creative content that positively impacted the community and strengthening Sarawak’s creative industries.

The Forestry Department Sarawak was recognised with the Environmental Sustainability Award for their commitment in using digital technology to preserve the environment and sustainably manage forest resources.

Meanwhile, the Mukah Division Resident’s Office was awarded the Digital Leadership Award for their leadership in implementing digital technology to improve management and services to the community in Mukah Division.

The five awardees also took home RM10,000, trophies and certificates.

Also present at the ceremony were Sarawak Legislative Assembly Speaker, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, Sarawak Minister for Transport, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development, Dato Sri Dr. Stephen Rundi Utom, Sarawak Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Liwan Lagang, SAINS Chairman, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr. George Chan Hong Nam, SDEC Chairman, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani, SMA General Manager, Dato Dr. Anderson Tiong Ing Heng, heads of departments and other distinguished guests. -UKASnews
