KUCHING: Sarawak will once again take the spotlight as it hosts the Sarawak International Dragon and Lion Dance Cup 2025, scheduled for November 1 and 2.
Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Community Development (Youth and Sports), Datuk Snowdan Lawan, said the tournament returns for its second edition following the success of its inaugural event last year, which drew overwhelming participation from both local and international teams.
“The success of the first edition has become the driving force behind the continuation of this event, which is now part of Sarawak’s annual sports and cultural calendar,” he said during a press conference at Baitulmakmur II on Wednesday.
This year’s championship will take place at the Ang Cheng Ho Multipurpose Hall, Batu Kawa, featuring 46 teams representing the Philippines, China, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia, with more than 500 participants in total.
The competition will be divided into four main categories: Moonlight Dragon, Northern Light Dragon, High Pole Southern Lion Dance, and Traditional Southern Lion Dance.
A total of RM65,000 in prizes will be awarded, including cash rewards, trophies, and special medals featuring Sarawak’s unique cultural identity as host. —UKASnews
