KUCHING: Sarawak will highlight the rapid progress in the clean energy and semiconductor industries during the 47th ASEAN Summit on October 27.

Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, said Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, had asked Sarawak to share the state's experiences and achievements in developing the two strategic sectors.

"The Prime Minister has asked me to share the progress achieved in Sarawak in these two important sectors that are part of the new economy, namely clean energy and semiconductors, especially those involving artificial intelligence (AI) as a catalyst for progress in various economic sectors and promoting the use of AI technology," he said.

He said this when met by reporters after the Opening Ceremony of the International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak 2025 (IDECS25) at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Wednesday.

Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari added that Sarawak has used AI and semiconductor elements simultaneously, where the AI capability itself depends on the function and design of the chip, including developing its own chip design, namely KETEQ.AI.

Commenting on the presence of US President Donald Trump at the summit, he hoped that the world leader's presence could provide a deeper understanding of the geopolitics of the Asia-Pacific region.

"The investment climate has been slightly affected following the implementation of Donald Trump's tariff policies, which have affected trade and investment in the region.

"Therefore, I hope that ASEAN leaders can speak wisely to overcome economic problems due to the tariff policies implemented by Donald Trump," he explained. - UKASnews
