LAWAS: Sarawak Police Commissioner CP Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah has chosen Lawas as the first district to kick off his official working visits across the state’s 28 police districts, underscoring the importance of strengthening relations between the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and local communities.
“I am honoured that Lawas is my first destination as Commissioner. I last served here in 1996, and I am delighted to reconnect with the community. This visit marks the beginning of my efforts to engage closely with all district police chiefs and community leaders,” he said during the Dinner with the Sarawak Police Commissioner held at Hotel Seri Malaysia Lawas.
Datuk Mohamad Zainal said the fight against drug abuse remains one of the key focuses for the Sarawak police force, and the issue will be tackled through more effective community-based strategies.
“We will face the drug problem together, not only in Lawas but throughout Sarawak. It is a shared duty to ensure that every citizen can live safely, free from fear and criminal threats,” he said.
He thanked Dato Henry Sum Agong, local authorities, and the community for their unwavering support, adding that public trust and cooperation are central to effective policing.
“Maintaining security is a heavy responsibility that must be carried out with integrity and unity. I look forward to working hand in hand with all levels of society,” he added.
Organised by the Lawas District Police, the event was also attended by DCP Saifullizan Ishak, Awangku Zainal Abedin Pengiran Jawa, and DSP Liong Tindan, along with community heads and representatives.
The dinner was enlivened by silat performances, cultural dances, and singing, reflecting Lawas’s unity in diversity. -UKASnews
