KUCHING: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) has proposed the creation of more new electoral constituencies in rural areas, particularly in Dayak-majority regions, to ensure that the delivery of development and public services can be carried out more effectively.

PRS President Dato Sri Joseph Salang Gandum said the proposal also aims to achieve a more balanced political representation among ethnic groups and regions in the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN).

“We are proposing the establishment of smaller rural Dayak constituencies to facilitate more efficient implementation of development projects and the smoother dissemination of ideas that can help advance our efforts to reduce poverty.

“Like other component parties, PRS is seeking more balanced ethnic representation in the State Legislative Assembly. We cannot leave the entire constituency delineation process solely to the Election Commission (EC),” he explained.

He said this during his speech at the opening ceremony of the 6th Triennial Delegates Conference of PRS, which was officiated by the Sarawak Premier and Chairman of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, here on Saturday.

Dato Sri Joseph added that the Sarawak Premier’s direct involvement in addressing this issue would mark a significant legacy in the state’s political development. -UKASnews
