KUCHING: The Heritage Reloaded exhibition at Wesberly Galleria came alive with colour, conversation and cultural reflection as visitors joined Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) Mayor Dato Hilmy Othman and local artists for an evening that celebrated four decades of Sarawak’s creative expression.

After officiating the opening ceremony, Dato Hilmy took part in a gallery walkabout, engaging with artists and viewing their works up close.

The visit highlighted the dynamic spirit of Sarawak’s art community, where tradition and modern expression continue to evolve side by side.

One of the most talked-about displays of the night was a curated installation that explored the traditional belief of women belonging in the kitchen.

Combining household motifs with bold visual symbolism, the piece challenged old perceptions and celebrated the strength and resilience of women through a contemporary lens.

The artwork became a central talking point among visitors, drawing attention to how culture and gender roles can be reinterpreted through art.

Its contrast of domestic elements and progressive ideas reflected the broader theme of Heritage Reloaded, which connects past narratives to present realities.

Throughout the exhibition hall, paintings, installations and mixed-media works captured stories of Sarawak’s landscapes, people and heritage.

The setting buzzed with admiration and reflection as guests moved from one display to another, discovering the diversity of local creativity.

The evening concluded with a gallery walkabout and exchanges between the Mayor and participating artists, reflecting a shared appreciation for creativity and cultural growth. -UKASnews
