SARIKEI: A total of RM1.87 million has been channelled to improve community infrastructure, religious facilities, and educational institutions in Sarikei, as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to promote inclusive development under the MADANI agenda.
For 2024, the Projek Mesra Rakyat (PMR) programme received RM2 million, covering 29 physical projects worth RM762,300 and 36 supply projects valued at RM1,237,700.
The allocation for 2025 remains the same at RM2 million, involving 42 physical projects worth RM1,107,000 and 25 supply projects totalling RM893,000.
These projects focus on infrastructure upgrades, road and drainage improvements, and providing essential supplies for rural and longhouse communities.
Besides PMR, several other development initiatives have also been approved for Sarikei.
These include seven mosque and surau projects worth RM1 million, three post-flood rehabilitation projects for schools amounting to RM240,000, and one special project under the Ihsan MADANI Fund valued at RM85,000.
Other ongoing efforts include four Smart Projects worth RM540,000 and six Solar MADANI projects amounting to RM6,000, bringing the total investment in community development to RM1.871 million.
Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability and Sarikei MP Dato’ Sri Huang Tiong Sii said the allocations reflect the government’s strong commitment to delivering real benefits to the people, especially those in rural areas.
“Through Projek Mesra Rakyat and other related initiatives, the government ensures that infrastructure upgrades and public facilities reach every layer of society. Together, we are building a Sarikei that is more progressive, prosperous, and sustainable,” he said.
The allocation handover ceremony was officiated by Deputy Resident of Sarikei Badjuri Bidin, who represented Dato’ Sri Huang, at the Sarikei Division Government Administrative Centre. -UKASnews
