KUCHING: The 79th Birthday Celebrations of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar came to a close with a Tea Ceremony held at the Sarawak Chamber, Riverside Majestic Hotel here, on Sunday.

Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi arrived at around 10.30 am and were welcomed by Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg and his daughter, Dayang Norjihan.

Also present to enliven the event were Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas with his wife Dato Doreen Mayang, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts as well as Minister in Charge of the 79th Birthday Celebrations Ceremony Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah with his wife Datin Sri Zuraini Abdul Jabar, Minister of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah with her husband Datu Dr Adi Badiozaman, Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki with his wife Dato Baduyah Bujang, Deputy Ministers and other invited dignitaries.

At the event, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi and Toh Puan Fauziah presented cash donations and hampers to 120 recipients consisting of asnaf and school students around Kuching city.

The cash donations were from the Astana Negeri Sarawak and the Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKM), while the hampers were donated by Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS).

The ceremony was also graced with cultural and entertainment performances, followed by a yellow glutinous rice cutting ceremony in conjunction with the birth anniversary of Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi.

This Tea Ceremony was the closing event for the Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri Birthday Celebrations this year which began on 9 October.

This celebration is Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi's second official celebration as the Sarawak Governor since being appointed to hold the position for a period of four years starting from 26 January 2024 to 26 January 2028.

Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi is the eighth Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak who was officially appointed on 26 January 2024 at Istana Negara and sworn in on 29 January 2024 at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Building.- UKASnews
