KUCHING: The Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) continues to strengthen its role as a bridge of authentic and effective information between the Sarawak state government and the people at various levels of society.
The micro-programmes carried out throughout Sarawak are proof of the agency's commitment to go to the ground and interact directly with the local community.
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS), Datuk Abdullah Saidol said that the implementation of continuous programmes in each district, including rural areas such as longhouses and ethnic villages of various races, not only strengthens engagement with the community, but also helps convey the state government's policies and initiatives accurately and easily understood.
“Our responsibility is great, not only to report news and events, but also to ensure that every government information reaches the people directly, whether in the city or the countryside,” he said when speaking at the Demi Rakyat South Zone 2025 Programme organised by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) at the Waterfront Hotel here on Thursday.
He also explained that information from the results of the community attitude survey was carefully collected by UKAS officers who went to the field, including coffee shops and grocery stores, to obtain real feedback on the needs and views of the people.
“All the special reports were submitted directly to the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, for further action,” he added.
In his speech, he also expressed his appreciation for the role of community service centre officers and other agencies such as the Social Welfare Department who are always committed to carrying out their duties despite facing various constraints.
“The role of officers at service centres is very important. They act as a link between the government and the people, ensuring that every assistance is channelled to those who really need it,” he added.
Touching on the leadership of the Sarawak Premier, he stated that the administration is now more focused on people-oriented development, with priority given to social well-being and community welfare.
“Since the Sarawak Premier led the state government, the development approach has become more balanced, not only focused on infrastructure, but also on the welfare of the people. We will see the 2026 Budget as one of the most people-oriented budgets,” he said.
He also called on all parties, including UKAS officers and service centres, to continue to strengthen communication and social responsibility, especially in disseminating true information and addressing the spread of fake news, especially those involving strategic issues such as oil and gas.-UKASnews
