Dutch Ambassador Arrives in Kuching

KUCHING: The Ambassador of the Netherlands to Malaysia, His Excellency Jacques Werner, arrived in Kuching on Wednesday to begin a five-day working visit to Sarawak aimed at strengthening cooperation and enhancing bilateral relations.

The visit highlights the Netherlands’ ongoing commitment to strengthening meaningful engagement with Sarawak through discussions on sustainability, trade, and innovation, reflecting shared aspirations for inclusive and forward-looking development.

During his stay, His Excellency is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on the Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, to discuss potential areas of collaboration between the Netherlands and Sarawak, particularly in sectors that support economic growth and sustainable progress.

The visit also includes a networking event with the Sarawak Business Federation, providing a platform for dialogue between the Dutch delegation and local industry leaders.

The session aims to strengthen partnerships and explore opportunities for mutual growth in business and investment.

In addition, His Excellency will hold a meeting with Senior Vice President of Growth at Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS), Datuk Joseph Podtung, to exchange views on innovation and sustainable energy development.

The Netherlands’ expertise in renewable energy, water management, and green technology complements Sarawak’s priorities under the Post-COVID Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), offering potential synergies that can contribute to the state’s long-term development goals.

Held from 8 to 12 October 2025, the visit reaffirms the strong ties and growing cooperation between the Netherlands and Sarawak, founded on shared values of sustainability, partnership, and mutual respect. -UKASnews
